The UF-LON1 Series Industrial LonWorks Fiber Optic Converter extends LonWorks fieldbus communication over optical fiber. It converts electrical signals from LonWorks TP/FT-10 twisted-pair networks into optical signals for point-to-point fiber transmission, helping connect remote LonWorks network segments while reducing the impact of electromagnetic interference and ground potential differences.
Designed for building automation, industrial control, and intelligent transportation applications, the UF-LON1 provides transparent LonWorks signal transmission without requiring software configuration or changes to the LonTalk communication protocol.
Available in multimode and single-mode versions, the converter supports fiber transmission distances of up to 2 km over multimode fiber and 25 km over single-mode fiber, with longer single-mode distances available as options.
How Does a LonWorks Fiber Optic Converter Work?
A LonWorks fiber optic converter converts the electrical TP/FT-10 signals from a LonWorks network into optical signals. At the remote end, a compatible converter converts the optical signals back into electrical LonWorks signals.
This arrangement allows LonWorks communication to travel over optical fiber without converting the network into Ethernet or translating the LonTalk protocol into IP.
Typical connection:
LonWorks Controller → UF-LON1 Converter → Optical Fiber → UF-LON1 Converter → Remote LonWorks Device or Network Segment
A compatible converter is required at each end of the fiber link. Confirm the model, fiber type, connector, and optical distance before deployment.
