Industrial 1-Port LONWORKS to 2-Port Fiber Optic Converter

Model: UF-LON2 Series

The UF-LON2 Series Industrial LonWorks Fiber Optic Converter extends LonWorks fieldbus communication over optical fiber. It converts electrical signals from LonWorks TP/FT-10 twisted-pair networks into optical signals for reliable long-distance transmission.

Featuring one LonWorks interface and two fiber ports, the UF-LON2 supports point-to-point fiber connections and daisy-chain network extensions. Optical fiber helps reduce the impact of electromagnetic interference (EMI/RFI), ground potential differences, and lightning-related electrical disturbances on communication links.

Available in multimode and single-mode versions, the UF-LON2 supports fiber transmission distances of up to 2 km over multimode fiber and 25 km over single-mode fiber, with single-mode options up to 80 km available.

Designed for building automation, industrial control, intelligent transportation, industrial networking, and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) applications, the UF-LON2 offers transparent LonWorks signal transmission without requiring software or protocol configuration.

Why Extend LonWorks over Fiber?

  • Long-distance communication: Connect remote LonWorks network segments over optical fiber.

  • Reduced electromagnetic interference: Optical fiber is resistant to electromagnetic interference affecting copper communication cables.

  • Electrical isolation: Fiber helps eliminate direct conductive ground paths between connected locations.

  • Flexible network layout: Two fiber ports support daisy-chain extensions where required by the network design.

  • Simple deployment: Plug-and-play operation reduces configuration work.

  • Wide Operating Temperature: Designed to operate from -20°C to +70°C.

Applications

Building Automation Systems (BAS)

Extend LonWorks communication between building automation controllers and remote field devices using optical fiber links.

Industrial Control Networks

Connect LonWorks-based control systems across industrial environments where electromagnetic interference or ground-potential differences may affect copper communication wiring.

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)

Provide fiber connectivity for compatible LonWorks fieldbus equipment used in transportation infrastructure and distributed monitoring systems.

Industrial Networking

Extend LonWorks communication between remote equipment locations using multimode or single-mode optical fiber.

Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)

Support LonWorks fieldbus connectivity in distributed monitoring and control installations that require longer communication distances or electrical isolation.

How Does a 2-Port LonWorks Fiber Optic Converter Work?

The UF-LON2 converts electrical LonWorks TP/FT-10 signals into optical signals for transmission over fiber. At the receiving end, a compatible converter restores the optical signals to electrical LonWorks signals.

Its two fiber ports allow fiber connections for point-to-point links and daisy-chain extensions, helping connect LonWorks network nodes across multiple locations.

Typical connection:

LonWorks Controller or Network Segment → UF-LON2 → Fiber Link → Compatible UF-LON2 or Supported Fiber Network Segment

Confirm the required topology, fiber port connections, and compatible equipment before installation.
