4-Channel Bi-Directional XLR Balanced Audio over Fiber Converter

Model:UF-XLR-4BA

The UF-XLR-4BA is a 4-channel bi-directional XLR balanced audio over fiber converter that provides four forward and four reverse audio channels over an optical fiber link.

4-Channel Bi-Directional XLR Balanced Audio over Fiber Converter

The UF-XLR-4BA is a professional 4-channel bi-directional XLR balanced audio over fiber converter designed to transmit four channels of broadcast-quality analog audio in both forward and reverse directions over a single optical fiber link. It uses digital audio encoding and FPGA-based processing to transport balanced XLR audio between locations, with up to 20 km transmission over single-mode fiber in the standard configuration. The system is designed for professional AV, broadcast, rental and staging, theater, stadium, theme park, and other long-distance audio transmission applications.

4-Channel Bi-Directional XLR Balanced Audio over Fiber

The UF-XLR-4BA is a 4-channel bi-directional XLR balanced audio fiber converter that transmits professional analog audio in both directions over a single optical fiber link. Unlike a conventional one-way audio fiber converter, the UF-XLR-4BA supports four channels of forward audio and four channels of reverse audio, making it suitable for applications that require two-way audio communication between locations.

The system uses FPGA-based digital encoding/decoding and clock recovery technology to provide stable, high-quality audio transmission. It supports single-mode and multimode fiber configurations, with standard transmission distances of up to 20 km over single-mode fiber and 1 km over multimode fiber.

Why Use Bi-Directional XLR Audio over Fiber?

Many professional AV systems need to send audio in both directions between two locations. A conventional one-way audio fiber converter is suitable for audio distribution, but it cannot provide a return audio path.

The UF-XLR-4BA solves this requirement by providing four forward audio channels and four reverse audio channels over the same fiber link.

Two-Way Audio Between Remote Locations

The converter allows audio signals to travel in both directions between the transmitter and receiver locations, reducing the need for separate fiber links for forward and return audio paths.

Long-Distance Audio Transmission

Optical fiber allows balanced XLR audio to be transported over long distances while providing electrical isolation between the two locations. The standard single-mode configuration supports up to 20 km transmission.

Multi-Channel Audio Communication

Four audio channels are available in each direction, providing an effective solution for professional AV systems that need multiple independent audio paths between two locations.

Reduced Cabling Complexity

By carrying forward and reverse audio channels through the same optical link, the UF-XLR-4BA can simplify fiber infrastructure for two-way professional audio systems.

Reliable Professional AV Transmission

FPGA-based digital encoding/decoding, clock recovery, noise control, and optical transmission help maintain stable audio communication over long-distance fiber links.

How Does the UF-XLR-4BA Work?

The UF-XLR-4BA uses a matched transmitter and receiver pair to transport four channels of balanced XLR audio in both directions over one optical fiber link.

Location A → 4-Channel Forward Audio → Optical Fiber → Location B

Location B → 4-Channel Reverse Audio → Optical Fiber → Location A

The system works as follows:

  1. Balanced XLR audio signals enter the transmitter and receiver through their respective XLR interfaces.

  2. The analog audio signals are digitally encoded using FPGA-based processing.

  3. Forward and reverse audio data are transported through the optical fiber link.

  4. The receiving side decodes the digital audio data and converts it back to balanced analog XLR audio.

  5. Four independent audio channels are available in each direction.

This architecture provides 8 audio paths in total: 4 forward channels + 4 reverse channels, while using one optical fiber link.
