UTP PoE Injectors and PoE Switches for PoE Lighting Solution

What Is PoE Lighting?

Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Lighting is the most efficient, flexible and sustainable lighting solution for building of all sizes. PoE lighting uses Power over Ethernet technology to connect, monitor, and control LED light fixtures used in smart building solutions. Smart PoE lighting reduces installation and operating costs by more than half and helps building owners meet wellness and sustainability goals.

What are the advantages of LED lighting?

  • Low-voltage LED lighting can offer a dramatic reduction in energy required per lumen when compared to incandescent, halogen metal halide, and fluorescent equivalents. In fact, LED lighting is 30 percent more efficient than even the most efficient alternative, T8 fluorescent.
  • Advantages of PoE based lighting
  • When using Power-over-Ethernet and LED-Lights, significantly less power for lighting is required
  • The solution is IP-based, making your lighting smart but, unlike other "smart solutions", a high level of security is ensured. All communication is encrypted and secure
  • As a low-voltage only is used, there is no need for an electrician during installation and maintenance
  • Effortless and low-cost installation in comparison with traditional electricity works – saving cost on labor!
  • Because the lighting is automated, light is only powered when and where it´s really needed.
  • The lighting is part of the existing IP-network. No new cabling or central distribution rooms are needed, network and lighting use the same ethernet cabling
  • Reducing hardware, fire load and associated measures. Space and components savings
  • Human Centric Lighting can be implemented increasing the comfort and productivity of employees
  • Not limited to a specific manufacturer, all lighting brands can be integrated

What is a smart building?
A smart building converges building-wide systems (often referred to as building management systems - BMS, or building automation systems - BAS) including HVAC, PoE lighting, shades, alarms, and security—into a single, IT-managed network infrastructure. It often uses foundational technology such as Power over Ethernet to accomplish this convergence.

What is the role of PoE in a smart building?
PoE has evolved from providing 15W of power across Ethernet cabling to providing 90W. With that evolution, the number and types of devices that can be powered and connected by PoE have grown dramatically. Using PoE to power and interconnect devices has several advantages:

  • Greater flexibility for hybrid workplace
  • Lower cost to deploy than using AC power
  • Lower cost to operate than using AC power
  • Greater insight, control, interconnectivity, and automation
In a smart building, PoE can power devices such as lighting, sensors, HVAC systems, shades, and alarms, as well as USB-C laptops, TV and computer monitors, refrigerators, and room air conditioners.
